Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) Update: What You Need to Know

Material Matters Member News Industry News/Information

The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) continues to face legal and regulatory uncertainty. While the U.S. Supreme Court recently reinstated the law, a separate federal injunction is preventing FinCEN from enforcing its reporting requirements—for now. Meanwhile, the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) is actively advocating for a delay.

What’s Happening?
On January 23, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court lifted a nationwide injunction, effectively reinstating the CTA's reporting requirements. However, a separate federal case has halted FinCEN from requiring businesses to file their beneficial ownership information at this time.

Advocacy for a Delay
To address ongoing uncertainty, NLBMDA has sent a letter to the White House urging an indefinite delay until all legal challenges are resolved. This effort underscores the association's commitment to protecting small businesses from potentially burdensome regulations.
