Special Alert: Court Strikes Down DOL's Overtime Rule |
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has invalidated the Department of Labor’s (DOL) 2024 Overtime Final Rule. The decision lowers the minimum salary threshold for exempt employees back to $35,568 and the highly compensated employee threshold to $107,432.
Judge Jordan ruled that DOL overstepped its authority by prioritizing salary levels over job duties and violated rulemaking requirements with automatic updates. This marks a win for NLBMDA and coalition partners advocating for small businesses. DOL may appeal or pursue new rulemaking in the future.
